Vog primarily affects the Big Island-Kona, in particular-but is often felt as far away as Maui and Oahu. To date, there’s no evidence that vog causes lingering damage to healthy individuals. Some people claim that exposure to the smog-like air causes headaches and bronchial ailments. Vog-When molten lava from Kilauea pours into the ocean, gases are released, resulting in a brownish, volcanic haze that hovers at the horizon.
